Before the Experience,
There is a decision...

Maybe you feel called.

Maybe someone you trust had an extraordinary experience.

Maybe you're considering mushrooms, ayahuasca, a ceremony, a retreat, ketamine, or another psychedelic experience.

Maybe you're simply curious.

Feeling drawn toward an experience and being ready to have one are not necessarily the same thing.

Before You Say Yes gives you ten questions to consider before making that decision.

Meet Christopher

Christopher Shaw, LCSW-S CSAT-S RYT

I know this territory from both sides of the experience. I’m a psychotherapist, clinical educator & supervisor, and psychedelic medicine practitioner with more than 18 years of clinical experience. I’ve facilitated over 100 sacred medicine ceremonies. I’ve also been the person entering an experience with hope, questions, and things I was still learning how to face.

My own life has been shaped by addiction and recovery, trauma, love, loss, relationships, spiritual practice, and psychedelic experiences. This work is personal to me. I know how deeply we can want something to change—and how much care it takes to bring that change into our lives.

Through my work and my own journey, I’ve learned that a profound experience doesn’t automatically become a transformed life. What comes before matters. What happens afterward matters. And having someone you can speak honestly with can make a difference.

Whether you’re considering your first experience or trying to understand something you’ve already lived through, you don’t need to arrive with the right language or a clear answer. You can bring your curiosity, your uncertainty, your hope, or the part you haven’t quite known how to tell anyone. We can begin there.
